The Children and Young People's Executive Board has identified the key principles that should underpin services and service delivery for children and young people for the future. These are:
- The child, the young person and the family are at the centre of service planning
- Children and young people can influence the services they receive
- Services are needs led and outcome focused
- Service delivery is integrated across agencies and organisations
- Service delivery is focused around the needs of the child, the young person and the family
- Universal and targeted services are delivered within communities with pathways to specialist services
- Interventions are timely and balanced towards prevention and early intervention
- Effective inter-agency governance is essential for delivering an integrated strategy for children and young people
